Shadowy Boulevard

Last night you asked me where I was looking
While walking under those lamp posts on the 5th Street.
Did I tell you that I was looking at your shadow?
Your shadow,
Rising and falling like the wave of a sound.
The moves it made,
The rhythm on which it danced,
Making my heart skip beats
Playing a song
For that whimsical shadow of yours.

And did I tell you that it was not just your shadow I looked at?
That it were also the traces of yours,
Traces I always wanted to record,
With you looking at me as if I was some miracle
While I was just a petty lover walking with you
Under those lamp posts on 5th Street.
Traces when you turned towards me
Your shadow kissing my shadow’s cheek,
And how they then distanced from each other,
At the turn towards the 7th Street.
Like the notorious kids
Parting their ways,
Hoping to meet again
After the intensity of their act has passed away.

Last night you asked me where I was looking
While walking under those lamp posts on the 7th Street.
Did I tell you that I wanted to look at you
But instead looked at your shadow
Because it told me the stories about you;
Stories which you would have told me after we bade our adieus.

It is always the stories untold
Always the words unsaid.
But your shadow said it all
When it took the turn back on the 5th Street
Where you turned your face towards me
And your shadow kissed my shadow’s cheek.
THAT!
That is when it all happened
When I fell in love
Not only with you
But your shadow,
For all the stories it told before we bade our adieus.
